The Little White Church
Once upon a time, there was a little white church where many people came to worship. This little church had some unusual names in its membership; names such as One, Few, Some and Many. Other names in the church were Somebody, Everybody, Anybody and finally, Nobody! The little white church seemed to flourish at first and was rapidly gaining a reputation in the community with its unique history. You see, One had a vision for starting the church and Everybody liked the idea. Few came at first and then Some joined later and before long, Many began attending! Everybody was happy because One was especially welcome and there was always something for Anybody to do. The best part was that Somebody was always willing to help too! Many brought One and Some came with Few and Anybody would always get a personal invitation. The little white church was thriving until one day when things began to change!
It seems that trouble began one day when Nobody was introduced to the church! It’s really hard to understand this because this individual seemed to be the perfect role model for the church! Let me explain: one day, Somebody noticed Nobody was a first time visitor one Sunday. Somebody told One who then told Few and before long; Everybody heard and Many became upset at this news! Some felt that Somebody ought to do something about this and Few thought it was a job that Anybody could do. As with any well run church, it was soon decided that this would be addressed at the next meeting at the little white church.
“One” arrived early and was followed by “Few”, who also brought “Somebody” and with the meeting open to Anybody; Many brought Some and soon, Everybody was in attendance! One brought the meeting to order and suggested that Somebody correct the problem that Nobody really brought with this attendance issue. Few agreed with Some that Many could soon fix this situation and Everybody thought that Anybody could handle it also, but Nobody volunteered! One felt that this would be too much for him to take on and asked Anybody for help and Somebody suggested that Everybody get involved. Some spoke up with Few agreeing; many became discontented and soon Everybody was unhappy! Nobody, demonstrating true christian spirit, was happy!
One soon left the meeting in disgust and was then followed by Few, then Some; and finally, Everybody! One told Everybody that Somebody should have taken action, but because Few disagreed and Many just didn’t care; things were not good for Anybody and all because in the end ....Nobody was agreeable!
Nobody joined the church because and Nobody visited faithfully every Sunday and soon Everybody could see that Nobody had the answers for everything and that Nobody was willing to do whatever was needed in the church. No longer feeling needed, Few soon left and when only Some noticed; Many followed! Before long there wasn’t much that Anybody could do; Somebody got tired of Everybody thinking that the church was always Somebody’s responsibility! Ultimately, One passed away and Some soon followed; Many left the little white church and Nobody cared! It wasn’t long before Anybody wasn’t coming either and eventually; Nobody collapsed from overwork!
The little white church is still open though; even 7 days a week! You see, it was eventually sold and converted into an antique shop!

Gaze
You're a bright strange flower
in my garden of spoiled salted soil.
Why did you bloom here in this,
Your almost fantasy, my dear your precious.
Hard to bare this sick affair.
All that stirs alive in me
all that was buried becomes unearthed.
and what was never there twists and turns and births your curse, I'm cursed...
I watch you wither away,
away from me and my world of grey.
I plead I beg, please stay!
keep me mesmerized, keep me lost in your gaze.
Oh well my strange strange flower, keep me as a memory, keep me as a sparkle in your eye.

Regret
"Regret" - October 2009
Spilled lies at the alter
Never forget the fear
The church bells' whine

The day had broken
You took off for the very last time
I am hunting in the cold
In search... In search of a sign
I am not looking for myself
I just can't silence these thoughts inside
I retrace footsteps lost in ice
Through half-squinted eyes and a numb feeling in my bones
I stumble up another hill to find that all too familiar scenery
Empty
Have I not passed these lands before?
(You really need me, but I'm not right you say
I want to find you but all I see is white and grey
A rage consumes me
The cold won't fi

WAITING
Waiting, in the ground you'll find them
Slowly they sweat in the morning sun
Pale their skin, now covered in dirt
Waiting for the day they know will come
Then their captors arrive
With their cruel machinery
And with shovels and knives
Drive them out of their home
But they will wait until that day
Until that day they know will come
Their eyes can't see the world around them
Their skin is numb to the life giving loam
The beasts of the country are dying around them
Because of what was sprayed on their home
So they are safe until the day
Until the day they know will come
Then they will be caught
Plucked from their houses
But the

I needed a sermon illustration so, I wrote this from a similar story that I heard years ago. I'd give credit to the origianl author if I knew who it was!
